Lila Rosen first arrived in the Caribbean in 1975 and her years of work aboard charter and private yachts gave her firsthand knowledge of what was most needed and wanted by owners and crew. With that
experience she established Dockside Management in 1990 to provide communication and shore side services to the yachts visiting St. Maarten.
Partner Kass Johnson came on board in 1994, bringing years of experience in the cruise ship industry as well as a passion for sailing fast boats. She was instrumental in developing Dockside's growing
relationship with the larger vessels beginning to visit the region.
Their first big project together was to organize recreation activities for the crew members aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and that provided a steep learning curve in organization, problem solving
and the ability to satisfy widely differing stakeholders. The VIP yacht & guest services division was soon formed in response to requests from a number of megayacht captains for a Caribbean agent who
could make arrangements throughout the Islands.
As the yachting activity in St. Maarten grew, Dockside expanded from their original base in Philipsburg, opening two centrally located lagoon-side offices in Simpson Bay and the Yacht Club Isle de Sol.
This put them in close range to vessels on both the French and Dutch sides of the Island.
